    NSF S-STEM SCHOLARS AT JOHN CARROLL UNIVERSITY
    **Transfer Students Only**

    With funding from the National Science Foundation’s Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S-STEM) program, the MIRRORS program provides support to low-income, transfer students with demonstrated financial need and academic promise to succeed in STEM disciplines at JCU. Scholars receive a $4,000 per year award (may be used in addition to other sources of financial aid), academic support, peer-led team learning, career development, summer research fellowships, and travel to scientific meetings.
    Eligibility Requirements for Transfer Students
    Applicants must be intending to major in:
    • Biology
    • Cell and Molecular Biology
    • Chemistry
    • Computer Science
    • Data Science
    • Engineering Physics
    • Environmental Science
    • Mathematics
    • Physics
    Additionally, applicants must be a U.S. citizen, have substantial demonstrated financial need as determined by the FAFSA (with preference given to Pell-eligible students), and must show academic promise. Competitive candidates will have a minimum 3.0 overall GPA in college courses.

    Essay Question

    Please include an essay (750-1,000 words) about the importance of the sciences in your life. What major are you interested in and why? What excites you about this STEM field and about your future career?

    Recommendations

    Recommendations are required from two of your college STEM professors attesting to your interest and capability for success in a STEM field. The professors you list will be emailed a link to complete an online recommendation form.
